The AFCOE evangelists, hosted by SSAC, are actively engaged in prison ministry at Luzira Prison.

Mutungo, Uganda — Last Sabbath marked a historic and spirit-filled milestone in the AFCOE (Amazing Facts Center of Evangelism) mission at Luzira Prison, as 216 inmates publicly committed their lives to Jesus Christ through baptism.

The evangelistic initiative, hosted by Silver Springs Adventist Church (SSAC), has been running since July 2025 and has transformed both the prison community and the surrounding neighborhoods. The climactic baptism service was the result of daily Bible studies with inmates and heartfelt preaching inside the prison walls.

Under the leadership of Evangelist Marvin Kayondo, the mission saw 95 baptisms from Murchison Bay Prison and 121 from the Remand Section. Evangelist Kayondo shared,

“We ran two meetings here, which were greatly attended. In September, we plan to run two additional meetings: one for the women’s section and another in the condemned section.”

The AFCOE team, while actively ministering to inmates, has also been conducting door-to-door evangelism in the Mutungo and Luzira areas, extending the message of hope beyond the prison gates. This dual approach, public preaching and personal visitation, deepens individual commitments to Christ in the wider community.

Leaders at SSAC expressed gratitude for the partnership with AFCOE, noting that the mission’s success shows what can be accomplished when the church steps beyond its walls. The baptisms at Luzira stand as a powerful reminder that the gospel message is not bound by bars or circumstances.

As the mission prepares for its next phase in September, the vision remains clear: to reach every corner of Luzira Prison with the good news of salvation, ensuring that no one is left without the opportunity to hear and respond to God’s call.

Coming up this September, a month-long public evangelistic meeting will take place in the Mutungo area. Notably, it was around this same time last year that a similar meeting in Mutungo led to the birth of Silver Springs Adventist Church. The church remains deeply committed to the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and is confident that the upcoming September meetings will yield abundant spiritual fruit.
